In this video he is cutting and laying green mulch around the tree.  Just be sure to put brown mulch…ie. dead leaves below that, as the green mulches will pull nitrogen out of the soil while they are decomposing.  The brown mulch will ‘feed’ the green mulch until it decomposes fully.  When it all decomposes, it will return nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil.
